PASS Program
Positive Alternative to School Suspension
In Partnership with School Districts and Parents
The Beacon School’s PASS program is a positive alternative for students suspended from school. This program offers students an opportunity to meet the requirements of suspension from their home school district and remain in attendance in a structured school environment.
Students in the PASS program are typically placed by their districts or by The Beacon School for school misbehavior. The length of the placement time is at the discretion of school officials. The Beacon School’s PASS Program allows students to continue their academic learning in a closely supervised, highly structured, small class environment. Providing support for academic and behavior skills, the PASS program gives students an opportunity to improve.

School schedules in the PASS program are closely adhered to and each student’s academic and behavioral progress is monitored and reported on each day. PASS program students have their own classrooms and their own staff located away from other classrooms on The Beacon School’s campus. Transportation to and from the Beacon School’s campus is provided by the student’s school district.
The majority of each day in the PASS program is for independent school work and group lessons where academic assistance is available. Students are required to be cooperative and to make a genuine effort to complete assigned tasks. All academic work is checked for completion and returned to the student’s home school for review and acceptance. Short breaks for relaxation, social time and campus walks, are all part of the daily routine. A breakfast snack and school lunch are provided by The Beacon School.
Counseling and service work opportunities are available to PASS Program students, along with opportunities for individual discussions about behavior and decision-making. The Beacon School uses approved behavior management techniques and follows its general safety plan to protect all students, staff and property. Behavior violations are handled in accordance with The Beacon School’s established behavior management plan and serious infractions are reported to the student’s school district.
As an established Pennsylvania Department of Education licensed private academic school, The Beacon School specializes in helping children with school problems through individualized, supportive, special education and alternative education programs. Student success is our goal.
