The Beacon School’s Extended School Year Program or ESY, is a program designed for students who have demonstrated difficulty in retention and maintenance of behaviors and/or self-help skills after extended breaks in their education. The ESY program provides a creative and cooperative approach to facilitating continuity of the school year and retention of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
An integrated summer curriculum is planned with weekly themes often with a multicultural experience in mind. Art projects, thematic games, musical expression and outdoor activities inspire students’ imaginations. In the Beacon School’s high-interest and low-frustration environment, ESY students learn life skills and achieve academic success. The four domains of respect, responsibility, cooperation and pride are emphasized.
