Career Education

The Beacon School provides individualized career education and job counseling for high school students.  Students also receive credit for Career Exploration, a course designed to assist students in grades 9 –12 that emphasizes skills needed for employment, types of vocations and careers, and learning the entry requirements and benefits in the world of work.

Students initially complete self-assessments to learn their interests and to develop short-term goals.  Then students learn entry level and critical employment skills such as job seeking, punctuality, communications, service, task completion, etc.  Later students may have opportunities for work-study and shadowing-observation of adults at work sites.

All students need to be prepared for work throughout life.  Our goal is to help students achieve and experience success through education of necessary employment skills, making intelligent choices regarding occupation selections and understanding employer expectations.
