The Beacon School’s high-quality Alternative and Special Education programs are tailored to assist students in grades K — 12 with learning, social adjustment, behavior and/or mental health needs.

Licensed by the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Departments of Education, our full-day school programs adhere to Pennsylvania’s state standards for learning.  Academic learning and credit, extensive support, small classes, and individualized instruction are hallmarks of The Beacon School.

The Beacon School staff includes highly-qualified certified teachers, reading specialists, support personnel, teacher assistants, behavior specialists, speech and language therapist, computer instructor, art and music instructors, school psychologist, guidance counselor, career education instructor, social workers, school nurse, special education coordinator, and education director.

The Beacon School’s programs provide for both accelerated learning and for remedial support.  All instructional and support programs are individualized for each student.  Classes include computer use, music (general, choral and instrumental), physical education, health, and art.  These classes are accompanied by the core academic subjects of English, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science.  High School students also have classes in career exploration and work skills.  Work experience opportunities may also be arranged.

For children who are not experiencing school success, The Beacon School provides even the most difficult children with academic and therapeutic behavior support, along with instruction in social skills to achieve academic success. Strict policies about bullying, gang involvement, teasing, and horseplay are rigidly enforced.  Cooperation and mutual respect are taught and expected.

With patience, perseverance, and caring, The Beacon School staff strives to improve students’ self-esteem, decision-making, coping skills, success expectation, and citizenship while students complete required academics.  Our goal is to help our students achieve and experience success.
